Arvind Narayanan is an assistant professor at Princeton University, specializing in information privacy and security, with a side interest in technology policy. He joined the department in 2012 after earning his doctorate from the University of Texas, Austin, in 2009 and completing post-doctoral work at Stanford University. His research has revealed significant flaws in data anonymization methods, earning him the 2008 Privacy Enhancing Technologies Award. Narayanan leads the Princeton Web Transparency and Accountability Project, which aims to investigate how companies collect and utilize personal information through a monthly automated census of one million websites. He also studies the security and stability of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. In addition to his role at Princeton, he is affiliated with the Center for Information Technology Policy at Princeton and serves as an affiliate scholar at Stanford Law School's Center for Internet and Society.
