University of Cape TownDr. Goodman Sibeko serves as Associate Professor and Head of the Division of Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Cape Town, where he combines his medical degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal with a PhD from UCT to advance innovative approaches in mental health and addiction treatment. As Director of the South Africa International Technology Transfer Centre, he leads groundbreaking work in task-sharing models that enable non-specialist workers to deliver mental health and substance use interventions. His research focuses on developing peer-run interventions for caregivers and implementing evidence-based practices for treating substance use disorders, particularly in the context of HIV care. Through his leadership of the South African HIV Addiction Technology Transfer Center, he oversees training initiatives that integrate substance use, mental health, and HIV care while maintaining crucial relationships with local and international stakeholders. His authored work includes the widely-used "Mental Health Training for Community Health Workers" curriculum, which has become instrumental in improving mental health care delivery and HIV treatment outcomes across South Africa.
