Dr. Apostolos P. Fournaris holds a diploma and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece, awarded in 2001 and 2008, respectively. He has worked at the Information and Communication Technologies Lab at Sophia Antipolis Hitachi Europe SAS European R-D Centre for two years and is currently a Principal Researcher (Associate Research Professor Level with tenure) at the Industrial Systems Institute / "ATHENA" Research Centre. His research focuses on cryptographic engineering, embedded system security, hardware cybersecurity, FPGA-based hardware design for computationally intensive operations, IoT edge node and embedded system design using FPGA boards, hardware/software co-design, and resistance to hardware/physical security attacks. He has contributed to numerous EU and nationally-funded research projects, including ENERMAN, CPSoSaware, CONCORDIA, SMESEC, CIPSEC, RADIO, FLEXINET, VITAL, VITAL++, SECRICOM, TAcle, TRUDEVICE, CRYPTACUS, Cryptoaction, WelCOM, VISETAK, PALM-IS, and I3T. Dr. Fournaris has published over 90 research articles in international conferences, journals, and book chapters on topics such as hardware design, security, cryptographic engineering, and trusted hardware systems, as well as several technical reports. He has organized three international peer-reviewed workshops and serves as a Technical Program Committee chair or member for various international conferences, including IEEE ISVLSI and Euromicro DSD. He is a member of IEEE, the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, the IEEE Computer Society, IACR, and the Technical Chamber of Greece.
