Georgetown UniversityAnne Deslattes Mays serves as a distinguished mathematician, software engineer, and computational biologist specializing in applied systems biology. Her pivotal role at Celera Genomics included leading the Software Systems team that, in collaboration with Gene Myers' Informatics Research team and Mark Adams' Sequencing team, successfully sequenced, assembled, mapped, and annotated the Celera Genome as part of the historic human genome sequencing effort. Her current research focuses on analyzing data from second and third-generation sequencing technologies, with particular emphasis on RNA-Seq data analysis to discover full-length transcripts and develop predictive models for organism responses to environmental and evolutionary pressures. Her multidisciplinary academic background includes a BSc in Mathematics from McGill University, an MSc in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University, and a Masters in Tumor Biology from Georgetown University. She currently serves on the NAS/IOM committee making recommendations on gene editing for both somatic and germline changes in humans, while also contributing to the Program Board of the Greenwall Foundation.
