Pioneer in Robotics and Dynamic Systems Control
Andrea Censi serves as the Deputy Director for the Chair of Dynamic Systems and Control at ETH Zurich, working under Emilio Frazzoli in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. in Control & Dynamical Systems from Caltech in 2012, following earlier degrees from Sapienza University. His career includes significant roles as Chief Scientific Officer at Duckietown, Director of Research at Aptiv and nuTonomy, and Research Scientist at MIT. At ETH Zurich, he leads research in robotics, embodied artificial intelligence, and autonomous systems, while also serving as a researcher for NCCR Automation. His academic contributions are substantial, with over 6,300 citations to his research work, particularly in event-based vision, robotics, and autonomous systems. He is president of the Duckietown Foundation, a robotics education initiative, and founder of Züpermind, a computational design startup. His teaching portfolio includes innovative courses like "Self-Driving Cars with Duckietown" and "Applied Compositional Thinking for Engineers," demonstrating his commitment to both research and education in autonomous systems and robotics.
