University of PennsylvaniaAmy Hillier is an Associate Professor in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Design, with a secondary appointment in the School of Social Policy and Practice. She serves as a Senior Fellow at both the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics and Center for Public Health Initiatives. Her innovative research focuses on geographic disparities and access to resources in disadvantaged communities, applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis to housing and health topics. Her significant work includes studies on historical mortgage redlining, affordable housing, housing abandonment, and childhood obesity. As project director for Mapping the Du Bois Philadelphia Negro, she combines modern mapping technologies with historical research to understand how birthplace and child-rearing influence life opportunities. Her community engagement includes work with Mixplace Studio, a TEDxPhilly presentation in 2011, and collaboration with the Philadelphia Historical Society on PhilaPlace, exploring neighborhood and cultural history.
