Davidson CollegeAmanda R. Martinez serves as Chair and Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Sociology at Davidson College, where she also directs the Speaking Center. Her academic credentials include a BA in multinational organizational studies from St. Mary's University, an MA in mass communication from the University of Houston, and a PhD from Texas A&M University. Her research explores media effects on diverse audiences, focusing on how entertainment media frames race-based stereotypes and influences real-world interactions. Her work has appeared in prestigious journals including Mass Communication & Society and The Howard Journal of Communications. She co-edited "Gender in a Transitional Era: Changes and Challenges" (2014) and created the Davidson Microaggressions Project in 2017. Her contributions to academia and mentorship earned her the inaugural Excellence in Teaching and Mentorship Award from the Latina/o Communication Studies Division of the National Communication Association, and a Presidential Citation Award for establishing the La Raza Mentorship Initiative.
