Columbia UniversityDr. Amanda Irvin serves as Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Columbia University, where she provides academic vision and strategic leadership to advance teaching excellence across Columbia's campuses. A first-generation college graduate and member of the LGBTQ+ community, she brings extensive expertise in inclusive teaching, collaborative learning, and educational development. Her academic journey includes a PhD in English and a graduate certificate in Women's Studies from Texas Christian University, where she later served as Assistant Director of Faculty Development. Since joining Columbia in 2016, she has led numerous initiatives to support pedagogical innovation and inclusive teaching practices. As a certified Team-Based Learning Collaborative expert consultant-trainer and Associate Editor for College Teaching, she specializes in feminist pedagogy and active learning strategies. Her contributions include significant publications on managing challenging classroom moments, supporting department chairs in inclusive teaching, and designing effective online learning experiences. Beyond her administrative role, she maintains active involvement in faculty development through the Institute for New Educational Developers and brings additional expertise in bystander intervention and QPR Gatekeeper training.
