ETH ZurichAline Frossard is a tenure-track research scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) since 2018. After completing her Bachelor's in Biology and Master's in Biogeosciences (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Neuchâtel, she earned her Ph.D. studying microbial dynamics in stream ecosystems under Prof. Mark Gessner at ETH Zurich. Her research focuses on understanding relationships between ecosystem functioning and microbial communities, particularly examining their biogeochemical functions in carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycling. She specializes in studying extreme environments such as high alpine, polar, and hot desert regions, where climate change effects are particularly pronounced. Her work has produced significant findings on bacterial abundance assessment methods, stream microbial communities, and Antarctic microbial adaptations. She has published extensively in leading journals, developing innovative approaches for studying microbial communities in various ecosystems, from stream sediments to polar environments.
