Health Sciences Library Leader and Community Health Information Expert

University System of MarylandAlexa Mayo currently serves as the Interim Associate Vice Provost and Dean of the University of Maryland, Baltimore's Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HSHSL), appointed in January 2023. With over 25 years of experience in health information research, she has made significant contributions to public health information access and community engagement. She co-leads the Network of the National Library of Medicine's Region 1 and Network Web Services Office through 2026, continuing HSHSL's 35-year prestigious role in this capacity. Her educational background includes a Master of Library Science from Simmons College and a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Mayo's impact extends through her authorship of more than 60 academic works and her leadership in multiple community-based health projects, focusing on health equity and global health initiatives. Her expertise spans developing innovative research services, teaching and learning methodologies, and creating projects that promote health equity. She maintains active involvement in the Medical Library Association through multiple caucuses and the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions Council of Library Directors.
