Harvard UniversityAlain Viel is the Director of Undergraduate Research and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University. He holds a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology of Development from Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris, France, and completed his postdoctoral research at Harvard. Specializing in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, and biology education, Dr. Viel teaches research-based and foundational courses in molecular biology and biochemistry. He is a founding member of BioVisions, a collaborative initiative focused on science visualization that brings together scientists, educators, students, and multimedia professionals. Dr. Viel is also the co-author of the acclaimed animation series “The Inner Life of the Cell,” and has contributed to other major works such as “Powering the Cell: Mitochondria” and “Protein Packing,” all of which have advanced the public understanding of complex biological processes.
