Delft University of TechnologyAdrie Straathof serves as an Associate Professor and Section Leader in the Bioprocess Engineering group within TU Delft's Department of Biotechnology. His research focuses on developing novel production processes for chemicals and fuels from biomass and CO2 using microbial and enzymatic conversions. He leads initiatives in bioprocess integration, specializing in in-situ product recovery techniques such as crystallization, adsorption, extraction, and membrane permeation. His work encompasses both experimental and model-based studies aimed at creating economically and environmentally sustainable integrated bioprocesses. As part of the Industrial Biotechnology program, he contributes to advancing sustainable processing methods for biobased products. His expertise extends to the development of circular economy solutions, including innovative technologies for extracting valuable components from waste streams using ion exchange and CO2-expanded alcohol methods. Straathof actively collaborates with industry partners and leads research projects focused on transforming wastewater into polymers and developing sustainable biotechnological manufacturing processes.
