Overview

The BCA in Cyber Security is a 3-year, 6-semester online undergraduate degree offered by Sharda University, accredited NAAC A+. The programme is structured across three stages: Year 1 builds programming, frontend and backend foundations through C++, Python, HTML/CSS/JavaScript and React/Node.js; Year 2 introduces object-oriented programming in Java, database management, cloud computing concepts, and AI and ML fundamentals; and Year 3 applies all of this through a dedicated Cyber Security specialisation, statistical analysis, and an industry capstone project.

The Cyber Security track is delivered through two specialisation electives, Advanced Cyber Security in Semester 5 and Cyber Security Applications and Research Methods in Semester 6, layered on top of the shared core curriculum every BCA learner completes. Learners access all study material, recorded lectures, and labs through a single web and mobile learning platform, supported by an AI interviewer and resume builder for placement preparation.

The programme has a recorded 90% placement rate across the BCA cohort, with recruiting partners including TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture, Flipkart and Razorpay, and an average package of Rs 8 LPA.

Why BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications)?

This specialisation is built for learners who want to specialise in protecting systems, networks and data from security threats, without needing a separate postgraduate degree to access this depth of focus. Rather than a single generic BCA curriculum, the Cyber Security track adds two dedicated semester-long electives in Year 3, Advanced Cyber Security and Cyber Security Applications and Research Methods, on top of the AI, ML, cloud and programming foundations every BCA learner builds in Years 1 and 2.

Learners get hands-on practice through GPU-enabled virtual labs, in-app coding practice, and an industry capstone project, with all study material delivered on a single AI-powered platform accessible on web and mobile. The specialisation prepares learners for roles such as Security Analyst, Information Security Associate, and Network Security Engineer, backed by a programme-wide 90% placement rate, an average package of Rs 8 LPA, and a highest package of Rs 28 LPA across 150+ recruiting partners including TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Flipkart and Razorpay.

Who is the programme for?

Admission to the BCA in Cyber Security follows a five-step process. Applicants first submit an online application along with their Class 12 marksheet and personal details. Selection is then based on either Class 12 marks, across any stream, or performance in the Sharda Entrance Test. Shortlisted applicants go through a one-on-one counselling session to discuss their interests and confirm the specialisation, after which an offer letter is issued confirming the programme and batch.

Once the offer is accepted, learners complete fee payment and document verification to secure their seat. No prior work experience or specific subject background is required at the point of admission, and no entrance exam is mandatory for candidates admitted on the basis of Class 12 marks. The academic structure follows a fixed six-semester sequence, with the Cyber Security specialisation introduced from Semester 5 onward, after two years of shared core coursework in programming, databases, cloud computing and AI and ML fundamentals.

Curriculum

The BCA curriculum is organised into three two-year stages. Year 1 (Semesters 1-2) covers Problem Solving and Computational Thinking in C++, Digital Electronics, Frontend Development Basics, Python Programming Fundamentals, Data Structures and Algorithms, Operating Systems, and Backend Development with React, Node.js and Express. Year 2 (Semesters 3-4) introduces Object-Oriented Programming in Java, Database Management Systems, Cloud Computing Concepts and Services, AI and ML Fundamentals, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Computer Networks, and Data Warehousing and Mining.\n\nYear 3 (Semesters 5-6) is where the Cyber Security specialisation is introduced. Alongside shared modules in Statistical Analysis and Data Visualisation, Research Methodology, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Information Security and Cyber Laws, Reinforcement Learning, and Responsible AI, learners choose a specialisation track. For the Cyber Security track this means Advanced Cyber Security in Semester 5 and Cyber Security Applications and Research Methods in Semester 6, alongside an Industry Capstone Project in the final semester.

There are 6 semesters in this course

Across Semesters 1 and 2, learners cover Problem Solving and Computational Thinking in C++, Digital Electronics and Computer Organization, Frontend Development Basics, Python Programming Fundamentals, Data Structures and Algorithms, Operating Systems and Unix Shell Programming, and Backend Development Fundamentals using React, Node.js and Express, alongside Data Science Fundamentals and AI Ethics. Semesters 3 and 4 build on this with Object-Oriented Programming in Java, Database Management Systems, Cloud Computing Concepts and Services on AWS and Azure, AI and ML Fundamentals using Scikit-learn and TensorFlow, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Computer Networks and Data Communication, and Data Warehousing and Mining.\n\nFor the Cyber Security track, Semesters 5 and 6 add Advanced Cyber Security and Cyber Security Applications and Research Methods on top of the shared Statistical Analysis and Data Visualisation, Research Methodology, Natural Language Processing Fundamentals, Computer Vision, Information Security and Cyber Laws, Reinforcement Learning Fundamentals, and Responsible AI, Safety and Ethics modules, culminating in an Industry Capstone Project where learners apply securing networks, systems and data against modern cyber threats to a real-world dataset or problem statement.

Programme Length

The BCA programme runs for 3 years across 6 semesters, with two semesters completed each year. The schedule follows a fixed semester structure rather than a self-paced format, though all recorded lectures and study material remain accessible on the learning platform for revision at any time.

Tuition Fee

The BCA programme is charged on a semester-wise basis, with the total cost split evenly across all six semesters of the programme. This allows learners to plan payments alongside each semester rather than committing to the entire programme cost upfront. In addition to semester tuition, a one-time registration charge and an annual examination charge apply, both of which are modest relative to the overall programme investment. International applicants are billed on a separate fee scale in their home currency, with proportionally similar per-semester and per-year splits. No hidden or variable charges are added beyond the registration and examination fees, keeping the overall cost structure transparent and predictable across the three-year duration.

Learning Experience

Learners in the Cyber Security track study through a single AI-powered learning platform that brings together digitised lectures, an in-app coding environment, flash card quizzes, and AI-generated lesson notes for every module, accessible on both web and mobile. Each lesson includes an auto-summarised set of key points, a runnable code panel for programming modules, and a transcript and Q&A section for deeper questions, with progress tracked against a personalised semester report.

For placement preparation, learners get access to an AI interviewer for mock interviews and a resume builder for creating and managing professional resumes. GPU-enabled virtual labs support hands-on practice for securing networks, systems and data against modern cyber threats, and a class chat feature lets learners collaborate with classmates on the same specialisation track throughout the programme.
