IIM Calcutta’s Advanced Programme in Data Sciences (APDS) is a one-year live online course specially designed for working professionals who are either practising Data Scientists keen on broadening their horizons or executives/entrepreneurs who wish to get adept in the art of mining insights from data using the right tools and techniques. The programme will introduce participants to the essential tools and techniques with which to handle, manage, analyze and interpret large data sets. The programme is also an opportunity to learn and work on business data in a hands-on fashion.
There are 13 semesters in this course
Study how to transform data into actionable insights using Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), data interpretation, and visualization. The program enables participants to acquire proficiency in software applications and tools such as Tableau, Python, R, SPSS Modeler, Oracle SQL, @Risk, Arena, Hadoop, and others. It offers an in-depth exploration of quantitative subjects including Econometrics, Stochastic Processes, and Simulation, while also helping learners master techniques in Data Analysis, Database Warehousing, Big Data Storage, and Analytics. Additionally, the curriculum delves into advanced topics such as Text Mining, the Internet of Things (IoT), Deep Learning, and Industry 4.0, preparing participants to navigate and lead in a data-driven business environment.

Computer Science Area Professor at the IIM Calcutta
Dr. Debashis Saha has been a MIS Group & Computer Science Area Professor at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta since 2004. He has a Ph.D. in Computer Communication and Networks from IIT Kharagpur. He was awarded the Best Research Paper of Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) Division at the Academy of Management annual conference (AOM 2020). His broad research interests include Digital Business Transformation, Digital Ecosystem, IoT, Industry 4.0, Techno Economics of ICT, 4G/5G Network Operations, Management and security, ICT for Development, WDM Optical Networks, Protocol Engineering, etc. Prof Saha is the recipient of the 'Class of 1992-27 Forever Chair Professorship' Award instituted by the alumni of the PGP 27th batch at IIM Calcutta.

Dr. Sumanta Basu holds a doctoral degree from IIM Ahmedabad and has six years of industry experience in the Manufacturing sector and IT Consulting. His academic experience comprises 12 years of management teaching at IIM Calcutta and as a visiting faculty in six other IIMs. His primary research areas include heuristics and meta-heuristics, risk management and uncertainty, operations and supply chain management, and pricing and revenue management. He holds multiple US patents in process improvement and publishes in leading scholarly journals. He is also involved in various management development programmes/consulting activities associated with the Govt. of India and leading private sector organisations.
