The M.Tech. Cloud Computing is a Work Integrated Learning Programme (WILP) spanning four semesters. BITS Pilani's Work Integrated Learning Programmes are approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Working professionals can attend live-lectures from anywhere over an online technology-enabled platform, mostly on weekends or after business hours. The programme makes use of simulation software, open source tools/frameworks and Public Cloud based deployment environments for hands-on labs and assignments. Students engage in practical applications through experiential learning consisting of lab exercises, assignments, case studies, and work-integrated activities. The Dissertation (Project Work) in the final semester enables students to apply concepts and techniques learned during the programme. The continuous evaluation system provides timely feedback to help busy professionals stay on course. Participants who successfully complete the programme become members of the elite global community of BITS Pilani Alumni.

Minimum Eligibility

  • Employed professionals holding an Integrated First Degree of BITS or its equivalent such as B.E./M.Sc. and relevant exposure to systems disciplines, with at least 60% aggregate marks and minimum one year work experience after the completion of the degree in IT services and products industry.

  • Minimum one year programming experience in C, Java or an equivalent language in backend systems OR a degree level course in a C/Java Programming

  • Experience in Relational Database Management Systems with understanding of data schema, SQL queries and writing programs that access databases.

Who is the programme for?

The M.Tech. Cloud Computing programme follows a structured admission process designed for working professionals in the IT industry. Applicants must hold an Integrated First Degree of BITS or equivalent such as B.E./M.Sc. with relevant exposure to systems disciplines, with at least 60% aggregate marks and minimum one year work experience after degree completion in the IT services and products industry. Additionally, candidates should have minimum one year programming experience in C, Java or an equivalent language in backend systems OR a degree level course in C/Java Programming, along with experience in Relational Database Management Systems. It's strongly preferred that applicants have taken basic courses in Computer Organisation and Operating Systems, Computer Networks, and Data Structures and Algorithms. The application process is entirely online through the BITS Pilani Application Centre. Applicants need to submit an Employer Consent Form authorized by their organization's HR or authorized signatory, along with a Mentor Consent Form signed by their chosen mentor. The academic structure consists of four semesters with a mix of core courses and electives, with the fourth semester dedicated to Dissertation/Project Work.

The M.Tech. Cloud Computing curriculum is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and skills required for career advancement in cloud technologies. The coursework spans four semesters, with the first three semesters covering required coursework and the fourth semester dedicated to Dissertation/Project Work. Students need to complete at least 12 courses plus a final dissertation. The curriculum includes a mix of core courses and electives. Core courses include Introduction to Parallel and Distributed Programming, Network Fundamentals for Cloud, Big Data Systems, Cloud Computing, Cloud Infrastructure and Systems, and Distributed Computing. These courses provide a strong foundation in the essential concepts and technologies of cloud computing. Students can choose from a range of electives including Data Storage Technology and Networks, Security Fundamentals for Cloud, Cloud Economics, API-driven Cloud Native Solutions, DevOps for Cloud, Design and Operation of Data Centers, Data Warehousing, Introduction to Data Science, Infrastructure Management, Stream Processing and Analytics, Secure Software Engineering, Scalable Services, and Edge Computing. This allows students to customize their learning experience based on their career goals and interests. The choice of electives is made available to enrolled students at the beginning of each semester, with a limited selection offered at the discretion of the Institute.

Dr. Y V K Ravi Kumar is an Associate Professor in the Computer Science and Information Systems group at BITS Pilani’s Work Integrated Learning Programmes Division. He holds an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from Sri Venkateswara University and a Ph.D. from Osmania University, Hyderabad. With over 25 years of teaching experience and a background as a Group 1 gazetted officer in the Ministry of Finance, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Ravi Kumar brings a unique blend of academic and administrative expertise.

Expert in Industrial Mathematics and Numerical Solutions

Dr. G. Venkiteswaran is an Associate Professor at BITS Pilani's WILP Division. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Mathematics from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany. With over 23 years of teaching experience, he specializes in numerical solutions of partial differential equations and Monte Carlo methods. Dr. Venkiteswaran currently serves as the Associate Dean for Quality Assurance and Assessment.
