Tourism and Climate Change Scholar

Cheryl van Adrichem serves as a Lecturer and PhD Candidate in the Cultural Geography Group at Wageningen University & Research, where she specializes in the intersection of tourism and climate change. Her research focuses on examining the complex relationship between tourism transportation, particularly aviation, and its environmental impact, while exploring sustainable pathways for future travel under climate change constraints. As part of the Cultural Geography teaching staff, she contributes to tourism education through various courses, including the MOOC "The Future of Tourism," which helps tourism professionals navigate disruptions like climate change and changing consumer preferences. Her work addresses critical questions about tourism sustainability transitions and carbon management, particularly focusing on the industry's dependency on aviation and potential adaptation strategies. Through her teaching and research, she aims to bridge the gap between tourism development and climate change mitigation, contributing to the broader discourse on sustainable tourism futures.

Governance Theory and Environmental Policy Scholar

Martijn Duineveld serves as Associate Professor at Wageningen University's Cultural Geography Group, where he has established himself as a leading voice in governance theory and environmental policy. As co-founder of Evolutionary Governance Theory and former co-director of the Centre for Space, Place and Society (2019-2022), his research examines the complex relationships between governance, environmental transitions, and power dynamics. His current work focuses on the WOLF project, investigating how industrial interests impact climate justice and low-emission transitions. His academic contributions span multiple continents, including research projects in Argentina, Uganda, Georgia, and Russia, as well as extensive studies of urban development in the Netherlands. His innovative approach to academic communication includes various media forms, from traditional academic publications to films and news blogs. His seminal work "Evolutionary Governance Theory: An Introduction" has helped shape understanding of governance evolution and policy experimentation, while his recent research explores material dependencies in sustainability transitions and the reconceptualization of political landscapes. Through his teaching and research at Wageningen University, he continues to bridge theoretical frameworks with practical applications in urban planning, environmental policy, and climate justice.
