Vukan R. Vuchic, born in Belgrade in 1935, has established himself as a leading authority in transportation systems engineering through his distinguished career at the University of Pennsylvania. After immigrating to the United States in 1961, he earned his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley in 1966 and founded Penn's Transportation Systems Engineering program in 1967. As UPS Foundation Professor of Transportation Engineering, he has shaped urban transit development globally through research, consulting, and education. His influential "Transit Trilogy" of books represents the most comprehensive work on urban transit systems and their impact on city livability. Vuchic has consulted for major cities worldwide including Belgrade, Beijing, Lima, Naples, Perth, Philadelphia, Rome, and Singapore, as well as transit agencies like BART, WMATA, and Moscow Metro
