This course provides a comprehensive introduction to Curanderismo, the traditional healing practices of Hispanic and Latino cultures, with a specific focus on plant-based remedies. The curriculum is divided into five modules, each exploring different aspects of this rich healing tradition. Students begin by learning the basic concepts and history of Curanderismo through interviews with scholars and traditional healers. The course then delves into the medicinal properties of plants native to the Southwestern United States, exploring their applications for digestive and nervous system health. Practical skills are emphasized, with demonstrations on preparing alcohol-based tinctures, water-based microdosis, and juice therapy. The course also covers unique healing methods such as geotherapy (the use of clay combined with plants) and the application of herbal oils and smoke in traditional treatments. Throughout the modules, students gain insights into the holistic approach of Curanderismo, which considers physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of health. By the end of the course, participants will have a solid understanding of the principles of Curanderismo and practical knowledge of how to apply various plant-based healing techniques.
