This course explores the critical relationship between social-emotional skills, mental health, and learning outcomes in educational settings. The curriculum follows a multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) framework, beginning with school-wide approaches that benefit all students, progressing to targeted interventions for at-risk populations, and culminating in intensive supports for students with significant needs. Throughout the course, you'll learn about creating positive school climates, implementing social-emotional learning programs, responding to diverse student populations, supporting trauma-exposed students, and preventing bullying and suicide. The course also covers the development of behavior improvement plans, social skills groups, and coping strategies for students requiring additional support. Special attention is given to special education services, 504 plans, and the unique ways schools address mental health challenges compared to medical settings.

This comprehensive course explores the vital connection between student mental health and academic success within educational settings. Using a multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) framework, the curriculum provides a structured approach to understanding and implementing social-emotional and behavioral interventions in schools. The first module establishes the fundamental relationship between health and learning, with special emphasis on mental health's impact on educational outcomes. Subsequent modules follow the three tiers of intervention: universal supports for all students (Tier 1), targeted interventions for at-risk students (Tier 2), and intensive services for students with significant needs (Tier 3).
