Introduction to the Internet of Things and Embedded Systems

Dr. Ian G. Harris is a prominent professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of California, Irvine, where he currently serves as Vice Chair of Undergraduate Education. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1990, followed by his Master’s and PhD degrees from the University of California, San Diego, in 1992 and 1997, respectively. With a rich background in hardware design verification and security, Dr. Harris has been instrumental in advancing research in these areas, serving on the program committees for leading conferences such as the IEEE/ACM Design Automation Conference and IEEE Hardware Oriented Security and Trust (HOST).Dr. Harris teaches several courses on Coursera, including "Getting Started with Go," "Introduction to the Internet of Things and Embedded Systems," and "Interfacing with the Arduino." His research interests encompass secure hardware/software systems and the application of natural language processing to security challenges. He has published extensively on topics such as social engineering attack detection and the formalization of natural language specifications, contributing significantly to both academia and industry.
