Expert in Insect Ecology and Sustainable Pest Management
Maya Evenden is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta, where she has been since receiving an NSERC University Faculty Award in 2003. Her research focuses on the chemical and behavioral ecology of agricultural, forestry, and horticultural pests in western Canada, contributing to the development of sustainable pest management systems. Dr. Evenden teaches courses such as Insect Biology, Insects in Managed Ecosystems, and Chemical Ecology. She has held leadership positions, including President of the Entomological Societies of Alberta (2006) and Canada (2010), as well as the International Branch of the Entomological Society of America (2018). Currently, she serves on the editorial board of five scientific journals. Outside her professional life, she enjoys spending time with her family, camping, biking, and traveling.
