Her research interests encompass cultural heritage, religious tourism, archaeological tourism, identity, and folklore.

Petra Paloniemi is a Senior Lecturer in Tourism at Lapland University of Applied Sciences in Rovaniemi, Finland, where she specializes in sustainable tourism and hospitality marketing. With a Master of Social Sciences focusing on Tourism Marketing, she is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Lapland, concentrating on value co-creation in digital platforms. Her teaching and research interests encompass a broad range of topics, including sustainable tourism practices, tourism experiences, and the implications of the sharing economy within the tourism sector. In addition to her academic role, Paloniemi actively participates in various regional, national, and international tourism projects that are co-funded by the EU, leveraging her extensive practical experience in the industry.
