Hitoshi Murayama received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Tokyo in 1991. He began his career as a Research Associate at Tohoku University in April 1991 and later became a postdoctoral fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in September 1993. In July 1995, he joined the Physics Department at UC Berkeley, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in July 1998 and then to Professor in July 2000.
