A Pioneer in Digital Education and Learning Innovation
Rachel Fitzgerald serves as Deputy Associate Dean (Academic) in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law at The University of Queensland, where she has established herself as an international expert in technology-enhanced learning and digital innovation. After completing her PhD from Lancaster University and master's degrees in Computer Science and Educational Administration from the University of Northampton, she has shaped curriculum development and digital learning frameworks across institutions in Australia, the UK, and Ireland. Her research focuses on micro-credentials, workplace learning, and the scholarship of AI teaching and learning. As Principal Practitioner for Teaching Impact at UQ, she chairs the Teaching Focused Committee and leads the Australian Teaching and Education Focused Academic Network. Her contributions to education innovation include spearheading the Corporate Innovation MicroMasters program and coordinating Service Innovation Strategy courses. Beyond her academic role, she serves as Senior Editor for the Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice and Associate Editor for the Australasian Journal of Education Technology. Her recent work explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and education, digital transformation in higher education, and innovative approaches to online learning design.
