Expert in Human-Centered Design and Ergonomics

Dr. Ravindra Goonetilleke is a distinguished academic and researcher who recently transitioned from HKUST to become a Professor of Management Science and Engineering at Khalifa University. His academic journey includes a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, an MS in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, an MS in Industrial Engineering, and a PhD in Human Factors Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Before his 27-year tenure at HKUST, he worked as Human Factors Manager at NIKE Sports Research Laboratory and Senior Ergonomist at the Biomechanics Corporation of America. His research focuses on human-centered design, particularly in footwear ergonomics, where he has made significant contributions through over 150 refereed publications and eight US patents. He is the editor of "The Science of Footwear" and serves as editor for several prestigious journals in ergonomics. His expertise has been sought by numerous multinational companies, and his achievements have been recognized through fellowships in the International Ergonomics Association, Human Factors and Ergonomics Society USA, and Hong Kong Ergonomics Society. As a Fulbright Scholar and award-winning teacher, he has consistently demonstrated excellence in both research and education throughout his career.
