Distinguished Fire Safety Engineer and AI Innovation Pioneer
Dr. Xinyan Huang serves as Associate Professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University's Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering, where he also holds positions as Deputy Director of the Research Centre for Smart Urban Resilience and Firefighting and Program Leader of MEng in Building Services Engineering. His pioneering work spans combustion science, fire safety engineering, and artificial intelligence applications in firefighting, with notable contributions including collaboration with NASA on spacecraft fire safety. His research portfolio includes over 200 journal publications across fire dynamics, smart firefighting, thermal safety of energy storage materials, and wildland fire behaviors. As Associate Editor of Fire Technology and International Journal of Wildland Fire, editorial member of multiple journals, and board member of international fire safety associations, he shapes the field's academic discourse while serving as a committee member for Hong Kong's Fire Safety Code and Fire Expert for the High Court. His excellence has been recognized through numerous awards including the NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund, Bernard Lewis Fellowship, IAFSS Early Career Award, and HKIE Fire Engineering Grand Award, while leading a research team of over 20 PhD students and postdoctoral fellows in advancing fire safety science and technology.
Fire Safety Engineering Pioneer and Computational Modeling Expert
Dr. Liming Jiang serves as Assistant Professor and Program Leader of MSc Fire Safety Engineering at Hong Kong Polytechnic University's Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering, where he combines expertise in structural fire safety with innovative computational modeling approaches. After completing his PhD in Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Edinburgh in 2016, following degrees from Tongji University, he has established himself as a key developer of OpenSees for Fire, an open-source platform for analyzing structures under fire conditions. His research spans fire behavior in modern buildings, structural responses of tall buildings in fire conditions, and fire-safe timber structures, while maintaining editorial roles at Fire Safety Journal and Fire Technology. His academic leadership extends to positions as Vice Director of Tongji University International Joint Research Laboratory on Fire Safety Engineering and Research Leader of structural fire engineering at PolyU's Research Center for Fire Safety Engineering. Through his work developing computational tools and hybrid simulation methods, he continues to advance the field of fire safety engineering while training the next generation of fire safety professionals through the MSc program he leads.
