This capstone course provides a practical, hands-on investment experience where you'll develop and manage your own simulated investment portfolio. You'll act as an investment advisor in a simulated environment, recommending strategies and portfolio changes to case study clients based on their unique challenges. Using sophisticated web-based analytical tools from Portfolio Visualizer, you'll conduct portfolio mean variance optimization, analyze historical and forecasted efficient frontiers, and apply Fama-French factor models. The course integrates concepts from across the Investment and Portfolio Management specialization, including asset allocation, risk management, behavioral finance, investment styles, and performance evaluation. Jill Foote is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at Rice University's Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business. She serves as the Director of the El Paso Corporation Finance Center and the M.A. Wright Investment Fund, an MBA student-managed portfolio. Her teaching focuses on investment management, and she also advises the Rice Finance Club and directs the Rice Summer Business Institute, a program aimed at introducing high school students from underserved areas to business and finance. Before joining Rice in 2002, Foote spent 13 years at Goldman Sachs in New York, where she held roles in strategic initiatives, risk management, and fixed-income sales. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Fordham University, an M.A. in Economics from New York University, and a B.A. in Economics and Managerial Studies from Rice University. She also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and has been actively involved with the CFA Society of Houston. On Coursera, she teaches "Capstone: Build a Winning Investment Portfolio."
