Meghan Perdue serves as a Digital Learning Scientist in MIT's Digital Learning Lab, where she collaborates with faculty to create innovative online courses and digital learning tools for the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. Her work focuses on researching and implementing best practices in online pedagogy, particularly in developing courses like "Qualitative Research Methods," "Shaping Work of the Future," and "Democracy and Development: Perspectives from Africa." As a researcher on MIT's Taskforce on the Work of the Future, she examines best practices in online and blended workforce education at scale. Her current projects include developing tools to integrate 21st-century skills into humanities and social sciences curriculum and assessments, creating more engaging learning experiences while helping students develop diverse skill sets. She has also made significant contributions to understanding workforce education challenges through her research work with MIT Open Learning, particularly in studying new educational technologies and delivery models.
Distinguished Ethnomusicologist Advancing World Music Analysis
Leslie A. Tilley serves as Associate Professor of Music at MIT, where she combines ethnomusicology with innovative analytical approaches to world music. After earning her B.Mus. from Acadia University (2000) and M.A. (2003) and Ph.D. (2013) from the University of British Columbia, she has established herself as a leading scholar in musical transformation and improvisation studies. Her book "Making It Up Together: The Art of Collective Improvisation in Balinese Music and Beyond" (2019) won the prestigious Emerging Scholar Award from the Society for Music Theory in 2022, breaking new ground in cross-cultural music analysis. At MIT since 2015, she teaches courses including Rhythms of the World, Musics in Bali, and Introduction to World Music while leading the MIT Balinese gamelan.
