Yu-Hung Hong serves as Director of the Samuel Tak Lee MIT Real Estate Entrepreneurship Laboratory and founder of the Land Governance Laboratory, where he studies inclusive land resource allocation in developing countries. After earning his PhD in Urban Development and Masters in City Planning from MIT's Department of Urban Studies and Planning, he has established himself as an expert in urban finance and land policy. Since 1996, he has taught urban public finance while researching property rights, public leasehold systems, and land readjustment mechanisms. His work focuses particularly on how governments can capture land value increases from public investment and community collaboration to finance infrastructure and housing for the poor. Through his roles as a lecturer at MIT and Visiting Fellow at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, he continues to advance understanding of land governance and urban development financing while promoting social responsibility in real estate entrepreneurship, with special attention to China and other developing nations.
