Dr. Kenneth J. Pienta is the Donald S. Coffey Professor of Urology at Johns Hopkins University, where he also holds appointments in oncology and pharmacology and molecular sciences. With extensive international experience in developing innovative chemotherapeutic programs for prostate cancer, Dr. Pienta advocates for a multidisciplinary approach to translational research, which has earned him accolades such as the American Association for Cancer Research Team Science Award in 2007. He has authored over 500 peer-reviewed articles and has been a principal investigator on numerous clinical trials, significantly advancing the understanding and treatment of prostate cancer.
Prostate Cancer Researcher Focused on Immunotherapy
Dr. Jelani Zarif is a prominent Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Kenneth Pienta at Johns Hopkins University's James Brady Urological Institute, specializing in prostate cancer research. He was awarded the 2016 Prostate Cancer Foundation’s Young Investigator Award and the UNCF/Merck Postdoctoral Science Research Fellowship in 2015. His research primarily targets immune cells within the prostate tumor microenvironment, aiming to understand their role in tumor growth and therapeutic resistance. Dr. Zarif earned his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from Michigan State University, where his dissertation focused on Androgen Receptor signaling in castrate-resistant prostate cancer cells.
