Dr. William Brieger is a Professor in the Health Systems Program of the Department of International Health at Johns Hopkins University, where he specializes in the social and behavioral aspects of disease control and prevention, particularly in tropical diseases such as malaria, onchocerciasis, and guinea worm. He holds a Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) from Johns Hopkins and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. With extensive experience teaching at the African Regional Health Education Center in Nigeria from 1976 to 2002, Dr. Brieger has developed a deep understanding of health education and community participation in health systems. His work has involved consulting for various international organizations, including the CDC, WHO, and USAID, focusing on community-directed interventions and health education strategies.In addition to his research and consulting roles, Dr. Brieger teaches several online courses at Johns Hopkins University and Coursera, including "Community Change in Public Health" and "Understanding and Strengthening Health Systems." He has published over 140 scientific articles that explore the intersection of culture, behavior, and health outcomes, making significant contributions to the field of public health education and practice.
