Mark Farrington is the Associate Program Director of the MA in Teaching Writing program at Johns Hopkins University, where he has been an influential educator since 1998. Initially teaching in the MA in Writing program, he became the director of the new Teaching Writing program in 2016, focusing on enhancing the skills of future writing educators. His expertise lies in composition and fiction writing, and he has contributed significantly to the field through numerous articles on writing pedagogy, published in respected journals such as the NWP Quarterly and Voice. Mark has received multiple accolades for his teaching excellence, including the Outstanding Teaching Award from the MA in Writing Program and the Outstanding Faculty Award from Advanced Academic Programs.In addition to his academic roles, Mark teaches several courses on Coursera, including "Responding, Revising and Assessing Student Writings" and "Teaching Reluctant Writers." He holds an MFA in fiction writing from George Mason University and a BA in English and American Literature from Colby College, where he graduated cum laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. A native of New England, he now resides in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife Christina and their springer spaniel Maddie.
