Mija-Tesse Ververs, MD, MPH, is a Senior Associate at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and faculty member at the Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health. She also serves as a Health Scientist/Senior Nutritionist at the Emergency Response and Recovery Branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). With over 30 years of experience, Mija has worked in numerous countries with more than 15 organizations, including international NGOs, IFRC, the UN, government agencies, and academic institutions. Her expertise encompasses nutrition, public health, food security, and livelihoods programming in conflict- and disaster-affected settings. A graduate of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, she previously worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva.

Dr. Gilbert Burnham is a prominent professor in the Department of International Health at Johns Hopkins University and the founder of the Center for Humanitarian Health. With a medical background in tropical diseases, he has dedicated his career to improving health outcomes in low- and middle-income countries. Dr. Burnham's extensive experience includes managing health services in Malawi for 15 years, where he provided care for refugees during the Mozambican war. He has conducted significant research and health program evaluations in various regions, including Iraq, Syria, and Jordan, and has been advising on national health programs in Afghanistan since 2002. His scholarly contributions include over 150 published papers focused on public health challenges in humanitarian crises.In addition to his research, Dr. Burnham teaches several courses at Johns Hopkins, including "Public Health in Humanitarian Crises," which equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address health issues in disaster-affected populations. His work has been recognized with multiple teaching awards, and he continues to influence the field of international health through his commitment to humanitarian assistance and health system strengthening.
