Counterterrorism and Middle East Security Expert at Georgetown University
Daniel Byman serves as Professor and Senior Associate Dean at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service, where he directs the Security Studies Program. After earning his BA in religion from Amherst College and PhD in political science from MIT, he has established himself as a leading expert on terrorism, counterterrorism, and Middle East security. His extensive government service includes roles as Professional Staff Member for both the 9/11 Commission and the Joint 9/11 Inquiry Staff of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees, as well as working as a Middle East analyst for the U.S. intelligence community. His research impact spans nearly 200 academic and policy articles, with recent works including "Spreading Hate: The White Power Movement Goes Global" (Oxford, 2022) and "Road Warriors: Foreign Fighters in the Armies of Jihad" (Oxford, 2019). Currently, he serves as Senior Advisor to the U.S. Department of State's International Security Advisory Board and as Foreign Policy Editor for Lawfare, while maintaining senior fellowships at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and previously at the Brookings Institution's Center for Middle East Policy.

C. Christine Fair serves as Professor in the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, where she has advanced from Assistant Professor to her current role since 2009. After earning her PhD from the Department of South Asian Languages and Civilization and MA from the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago, she established herself as a leading expert on South Asian political and military affairs. Her career includes significant positions as senior political scientist at RAND Corporation, political officer with the UN Assistance Mission to Afghanistan, and senior research associate at USIP's Center for Conflict Analysis and Prevention. Her research impact is evidenced through numerous publications, including influential books like "In Their Own Words: Understanding Lashkar-e-Tayyaba" (2019) and "Fighting to the End: The Pakistan Army's Way of War." She maintains editorial board positions for several academic journals including Current History, Small Wars and Insurgencies, and Studies in Conflict and Terrorism, while her expertise in South Asian languages includes proficiency in Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, and elementary Farsi.
