Full Professor of Communication and Media at Erasmus University Rotterdam
Prof. Dr. Jeroen Jansz is a Full Professor of Communication and Media in the Department of Media & Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he also serves as the Academic Director of the Community for Learning & Innovation. His research primarily focuses on the reception of new media, with a longstanding interest in the appeal of digital games. Jansz is a co-founder of the Game Studies Division within the International Communication Association and is actively involved with PEGI’s expert group (Pan European Game Information). He has extensive experience in teaching and innovative course design, covering large-scale undergraduate courses on Digital Gaming, Communication Theories, and specialized master's courses. Additionally, he chairs the Examinations Board of the Erasmus School of History, Culture, and Communication (ESHCC). Prof. Jansz has contributed significantly to academia with numerous publications and has developed impactful online courses, including a MOOC on Serious Gaming that reached a wide audience. His work continues to influence the understanding of participatory culture in contemporary media landscapes.
Lecturer and Researcher at Erasmus University Rotterdam
Dr. Mijke Slot is a lecturer in the Department of Media & Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam and a researcher at the Erasmus Research Centre for Media, Communication, and Culture (ERMeCC). Her research interests encompass new media, media user activities, online creativity, the future of journalism, and serious games. Recently, she co-authored a report examining the talent needs of game companies within the serious game sector in Rotterdam. Dr. Slot is currently involved in a two-year research project titled "Do We Have a Click?" which explores the digital relationship between Dutch journalists and their audiences, focusing on how online technologies influence this relationship and how it can be improved. She develops and teaches courses in the International Bachelor Communication and Media, as well as in the Master's programs in Media & Culture and Media & Business, covering topics such as social media and the impacts of communication technologies. In recognition of her teaching excellence, she was awarded the Erasmus University teaching prize in 2015.
