This four-week course explores the fundamental theories and applications of justice from both distributive and transitional perspectives. The curriculum is divided into two main topics: distributive justice, which examines principles for fair allocation of goods, rights, and responsibilities in society, and transitional justice, which addresses mechanisms for societies transitioning from conflict to peace or from authoritarian regimes to democracies. Students will analyze key philosophical frameworks from historical and contemporary thinkers, including utilitarianism, John Rawls' theory of justice as fairness, and Robert Nozick's libertarian vision. The transitional justice component investigates rights to truth, justice, and reparation through comparative case studies and historical analysis. Led by Professor Laly Catalina Peralta Gonzalez from the University of Rosario, this course balances theoretical understanding with practical applications in modern social and political contexts.
