It begins with a contextual foundation of sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals, introducing students to the political framework and key regulatory instruments related to the financial sector, including environmental licenses, compensations, permits, concessions, and authorizations. The curriculum explores major financial indices, indicators, and standards associated with sustainability, as well as criteria for environmental, social, and corporate governance investments. It examines how the Colombian financial sector, through ASOBANCARIA, has incorporated sustainability practices, with comparative analysis of approaches across Latin American countries. The course then delves into the socio-environmental impacts of Colombia's main economic and industrial sectors, covering their environmental management practices. Students learn about the political and regulatory framework for Climate Change related to the financial sector, highlighting the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement. The program concludes with a focus on the Green Protocol, exploring its institutional and strategic approach, achievements, challenges, and opportunities. Throughout, students gain practical tools for implementing sustainable business practices, developing eco-efficiency, and identifying socio-environmental and climate change impacts in financed projects.

José Maria Castillo Ariza is a Sanitary and Environmental Engineer with a Master’s in Environmental Management for Sustainable Development and a PhD candidate in Environmental and Rural Studies. A specialist in corporate and public environmental management, his areas of expertise include cleaner production, eco-efficiency, circular economy, and the management of complex environmental projects and technologies. He has held key academic leadership roles such as Director of the Master's in Environmental Management, Coordinator of the Institute for Environmental Studies for Development, and overseer of the COSMOS Environmental Management Plan at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. As a dedicated educator and researcher, José Maria teaches on topics like sustainable development, appropriate environmental technologies, environmental impact, circular economy, and climate change.
