Learn to analyze events with intellectual rigor and discover how reasoned decision-making helps you navigate complex, uncertain environments.
This course addresses the challenges of decision-making in today's increasingly complex, rapidly changing, and uncertain world. It provides approaches to discern real problems and their root causes, often requiring us to challenge the assumptions underlying our judgments about reality. Critical thinking is defined as "that mode of thinking about any subject, content, or problem in which the thinker improves the quality of their thinking by taking charge of the structures inherent in thinking and subjecting them to intellectual standards." The course teaches students to recognize their tendencies, approaches, and assumptions that form the basis of their reflections, as well as the conditions and results derived from their ways of thinking. This reflective thinking involves active, careful, and persistent examination of beliefs in light of their foundations and the conclusions they tend toward. Reasoned decisions are required in various domains, especially in business decisions related to strategies, organizational problem-solving, social problem-solving, and corporate social and ethical responsibility. The course approaches are oriented to analyze the critical thinking required for these areas, helping students make better decisions in organizations and select the best actions for their teams.
