This course is part of Género y sexualidad: construcción de espacios habitables.
This course examines the political relevance of gender and sexuality in today's world, particularly how anti-gender movements have influenced electoral politics in Europe and Latin America. Working with right-wing parties, anti-gender activism has contributed to the revival of anti-immigrant nationalisms that oppose sexual and reproductive rights. The course also explores how information technologies perpetuate conservative gender norms and unrealistic beauty standards based on whiteness and thinness. It examines masculinity, moving from singular to plural "masculinities" to recognize that hegemonic masculinity is just one possibility among many. The course highlights how feminist, trans, and LGBTIQ+ activists work to create alternative ways of existing that respect everyone's dignity and life, addressing issues that affect our daily lives and involve practices of freedom and oppression.
