A trained geologist and geophysicist, Pratson has consulted for major oil companies and co-founded an energy service company that provided advanced gravity data for offshore oil and gas exploration. His current research, conducted with students, focuses on carbon capture and storage, integrating energy storage and renewable energy generation into electricity operations, assessing water use in thermo-electric power generation, and evaluating future energy demand and supplies. His work has been funded by the DOE, DoD, and private industry.
