Pioneering Leader in Quantum Information and Network Computing
Stephanie Wehner, born in Würzburg in 1977, serves as the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Professor in quantum information at Delft University of Technology and directs the European Quantum Internet Alliance, where she leads groundbreaking research in quantum networks and computing. Her academic journey includes degrees from the University of Amsterdam, followed by postdoctoral research at Caltech under John Preskill, and a significant tenure at the National University of Singapore's Centre for Quantum Technologies from 2010 to 2014. Her research has revolutionized quantum cryptography through the introduction of the noisy-storage model and, with Jonathan Oppenheim, discovered the fundamental connection between quantum mechanics' non-locality and the uncertainty principle. Her expertise spans quantum cryptography, communication, and network development, with over 100 scientific publications garnering more than 11,000 citations. Wehner's unique background includes experience as a professional hacker, adding practical cybersecurity insights to her theoretical work. Her exceptional contributions have earned her membership in the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (2022), the KNAW Ammodo award, and recognition for co-founding QCRYPT, the world's largest quantum cryptography conference, while her work on quantum entanglement was named one of Science's Top 10 Breakthroughs of 2015
