Infrastructure Design and Sustainable Development Leader

Marcel Hertogh brings extensive expertise to his roles as Full Professor at both TU Delft's Infrastructure Design and Management chair and Erasmus University's Resilience Convergence and Design program, while leading the TU Delft Deltas Infrastructures & Mobility Initiative. His academic foundation combines a PhD in Social Sciences and MA in Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam with an MSc in Civil Engineering from TU Delft, enabling him to address complex infrastructure challenges from multiple perspectives. His research portfolio spans integrated design and management of major societal challenges, focusing on urban futures, sustainability, and resilient deltas, with hands-on experience investigating over 30 mega projects. As founder of the Netlipse network for knowledge exchange and author of 10 books, he has established himself as a leading "project doctor" for complex infrastructure initiatives, particularly through his pioneering work on Building with Nature approaches. His expertise encompasses program management, collaboration, mediation, and achieving practical impact, while his research continues to advance understanding of sustainable infrastructure development and 21st-century skills needed for complex project management. Through his leadership roles and practical experience as a project director, he consistently bridges theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, fostering innovation in infrastructure design and management while promoting sustainable development practices.

Project Management and Complexity Expert

Marian Bosch-Rekveldt serves as Associate Professor in the Infrastructure Design and Management group at TU Delft's Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geoscience, where she combines research and education in complex project management. After earning her MSc in mechanical engineering from Twente University in 1999, she spent seven years as a project engineer and manager at TNO before joining the Delft Centre for Project Management in 2006. She completed her PhD in 2011 with a dissertation on managing project complexity and improving performance in large engineering projects, which has become highly influential in the field. Her current work spans multiple educational levels, from BSc to professional education, both on-campus and online, while her research focuses on managing complexity, developing fit-for-purpose project management approaches, and creating value in large infrastructure projects. As coordinator of Construction Management and Engineering research projects and the Projects & People specialization, she plays a crucial role in bridging academic theory with practical applications. Her passion for education has led to innovative developments in project management teaching, including online courses and programs, while her research continues to advance understanding of project complexity, risk management, and the importance of human collaboration in project success.
